This morning I woke up craving my Grandmother’s Banana Nut Cake. I had everything I needed to make this delicious recipe even the buttermilk. I went straight into the kitchen ( I didn’t even make my coffee first!), followed the recipe, and 15 minutes later I put a batch of these Banana Nut Cake (muffins) in the oven. While the muffins were baking I put everything away…. That’s when I discovered I added heavy cream instead of buttermilk to the batter…. Ooops! I guess I should have had the coffee first 🙂 Oh well looks like the muffins turned out right! Have a great day and here’s the recipe for my Grandmother’s Fluffy Banana Nut Cake.
Enjoy!!
Several years ago my Grandmother asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I told my Grandmother that I wanted some of her favorite recipes along with some of her mother’s favorite recipes written in her handwriting. A few months later that’s exactly what I got. A photo album filled with index cards of all my Grandmother favorite recipes and a few of my Great Grandmothers recipes. It’s one of my most treasured possessions.
I never knew my Great Grandmother Mama’ Keown, but I have known some of her recipes, like this one I’m sharing with you today, for my whole life. This recipe for Fluffy Banana Nut Cake is something I remember my Grandmother and my Mother making time and time again and it’s something I always enjoy making as well.

Isn’t it wonderful that you have this lovely gift from your grandmother. I know you must cherish it now more than ever. A slice of the banana nut cake or the muffins must be delicious with a cup of coffee or tea in the morning.

Don’t you love those old well used recipes from the family. I make my grandmother’s banana bread (could be muffins!) too. Except she used crisco and I sub in canola oil. While sh was living she’s always say my banana bread “didn’t look right.” I loved her to pieces. She lived to be 102. So anyway, these muffins do look great. I’d love to pull them out of the oven for my breakfast! Hope all’s well with you! xox

Thanks Rhonda 🙂
Yes… I cringe just a bit when a recipe calls for cisco too. I’ve though about trying this banana nut cake with coconut oil instead but I’m not sure they would be the same. It’s been hard without her these last few months. I think that’s why making this and other recipes the same way she would is important to me… because it does taste just like hers. Anyways, the sun is out and things are warming up here in Texas so all is well 🙂
